BREYANZI® IS A CAR T CELL THERAPY: A DIFFERENT KIND OF CANCER TREATMENT
Breyanzi is not a stem cell transplant or chemotherapy. It is a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy—a type of treatment that uses your own immune cells to fight your cancer.
The key to Breyanzi is your own white blood cells
Your white blood cells (T cells) are combined with a hook on the surface of the cell called a CAR receptor, which guides them to better locate and fight your cancer cells.
THE 3 B’S OF BREYANZI CAR T: BORROW, BOOST, BENEFIT
BORROW
The first step is to borrow or extract your white blood cells (T cells) through blood collection. This process is called apheresis, in which blood is collected, part of the blood is taken out (in this case, white blood cells), and the rest is returned to you.
BOOST
Then your white blood cells (T cells) are given a boost with the addition of a receptor called a CAR. That’s how they become your Breyanzi CAR T cells.
BENEFIT
Finally, the CAR T cells are infused back into your body so that you may benefit from their enhanced cancer-targeting abilities. See below for how this treatment works within your body.
HOW DOES BREYANZI START WORKING IN THE BODY AFTER THE INFUSION?
AFTER INFUSION
- Once your Breyanzi CAR T cells are made, they'll be put back into your body through an infusion and will begin to multiply
- The CARs will help guide your white blood cells (T cells) to better locate and fight your cancer cells
- The CAR T cells attach to the marker on the cancer cells and some normal cells, allowing Breyanzi and your body to find and fight cancer
Is it time for Breyanzi?
Breyanzi may be an option, even if other treatments have not worked or stopped working.
